General Information on Suplasyn
Suplasyn is used for managing pain and improving physical function of the joints in patients suffering from osteoarthritis. The generic name of the drug is Hyaluronic Acid and it belongs to the class of saccharide biopolymers. Suplasyn is an injectable drug that needs to be administered to the patient intra-articularly. The drug works by increasing viscosupplementation in the joints and restoring their rheological properties, thus lubricating them and relieving pain.
Side Effects for Suplasyn
Transient pain for a short time may occur after a Suplasyn shot. You may also experience mild pain, heat, redness, irritation, effusion, inflammation, swelling, or hyperthermia at the site of the injection. Most of these symptoms are short-lived and diminish on their own within a few hours. For instant relief, you can apply ice to the area. However, if these symptoms do not get better even after a few days, your doctor may need to conduct a therapeutic process, such as aspiration of the joint fluid. Apart from these side effects, systemic reactions including chills or fever, cardiovascular reactions, or anaphylactic reactions may also occur. Sometimes, rash, itching, synovitis, urticaria, and decrease in blood pressure have also been reported. You should not use Suplasyn if you experience any symptoms that become intolerable or if you have an allergic reaction to the medicine. An allergic reaction to the drug can be identified by hives or rashes on the whole body, difficulty breathing, severe dizziness, or swelling or itching on the face, tongue, throat, or lips.
Precautions
You should not buy Suplasyn if you already have irritation or inflammation in the joint. You should also inform your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease, low blood pressure, or a skin condition like eczema or dermatitis. Apart from these, you should tell your doctor about all the treatment procedures and medical conditions you are going through. Depending on this information, he/she will decide whether Suplasyn is the best drug for you or not. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you should take Suplasyn only if clearly indicated. This is because its safety during these conditions has not been established, and it may cause harm to your unborn or nursing baby. This drug is also not meant to be used by children.
Suplasyn Dosage
You can use Suplasyn on the hip joints, elbows, knees, shoulder joints, etc. You can use only one injection for one joint, and you should use separate injections to treat different joints at a time. The recommended dosage depends on the size of the joint to be treated. For example, Suplasyn 0.7ml is used for a small finger joint. One injection is given in a week for 3 weeks, but it can be given for as long as 6 weeks depending on the medical condition of the patient. The maximum dosage that a patient can receive is Suplasyn 2ml per injection. The treatment should not be repeated the same joint unless a 6 month gap is adhered to.
Interactions
Before taking Suplasyn, you should inform your doctor about all the medicinal products you are using at present, including prescription drugs, non-prescription drugs, herbal products, and health supplements. You should also tell him/her if you are using any oral or topical medicines or injections for relieving your joint pain.
