General Information on Suprefact Nasal Spray

Suprefact Nasal Spray is used to treat prostate cancer in men. The generic name of the drug is buserelin and it belongs to the category of GnRH agonists. Suprefact Nasal Spray has to be sprayed into the patient’s nose, the amount of which is determined by the doctor. The drug mimics the action of the hormone gonadotropin and prevents the action and production of testosterone, thus curbing the release of testosterone, which is known to exacerbate cancer.

Side Effects for Suprefact Nasal Spray

Suprefact Nasal Spray may sometimes irritate the nasopharynx mucosa, which may result in hoarseness of the voice, nosebleeds, and hampered smell and taste. It may also cause impaired micturition, muscle weakness in the legs, lymphostasis, hydronephrosis, and bone pain, especially in patients suffering from metastases. Most of these side effects surface only during the initial stages of treatment and subside as your body gets used to the drug. However, you should stop taking Suprefact Nasal Spray and contact your doctor if you experience symptoms such as emotional instability, frequent nervousness, depression, dizziness, insomnia, tiredness, headache, blurred vision, pressure behind the eyes, occasional eye dryness, hearing problems, frequent palpitations, hot flashes, and frequent pain in the lower abdomen. It may also lead to skin related disorders, which can be identified by a decrease or increase in body or scalp hair, frequent skin dryness, acne, or splitting nails.

Precautions

You should not buy Suprefact Nasal Spray if your testes have been removed and your tumor has been found to be insensitive to hormone manipulation. The doctor must also know if the patient is suffering from diabetes, depression, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, or if you smoke, drink, or are taking corticosteroids or anticonvulsants. Your testosterone levels will need to be checked regularly and as such, you should not miss any of your scheduled visits to the doctor. Suprefact Nasal Spray is not meant to be used by pregnant women or lactating mothers, as it may harm the fetus or pass into breast milk and affect a nursing baby.

Suprefact Nasal Spray Dosage

Suprefact Nasal Spray is available in 1mg/ml strength and has to be used after 7 days of receiving the Suprefact shot. You will be asked to use the spray 6 times a day into each nostril, before each meal and after it as well. In this way, the medication is absorbed adequately in your body and distributed throughout the day. Suprefact Nasal Spray can be used even if you have a cold, and therefore, you should not discontinue it before consulting your doctor.

Interactions

If you are taking any nasal decongestants, you should use them after at least 30 minutes of taking Suprefact Nasal Spray. You should also tell your doctor if you are taking any anti-diabetic medicines during the treatment. Suprefact may weaken the effects of these medicines, so it needs to be taken with caution. Apart from this, you should tell your doctor about all the prescription and non-prescription drugs you are taking at present, including oral medicines, injections, nasal sprays, herbal products, and health supplements, etc.
