General Information On Symbicort
Symbicort or budesonide and formoterol fumarate dihydrate is used for the long-term maintenance treatment of patients with asthma. Budesonide reduces inflammation in the patient’s body, and formoterol relaxes the muscles in the patient’s airways in order to improve breathing. Your doctor will not recommend you to buy Symbicort if you are less than 12 years of age.
Side Effects for Symbicort
Some mild side effects associated with Symbicort include headache, back pain, a stuffy nose, changes in the voice, joint or muscle pain, nausea, diarrhea, upset stomach, and vomiting. Most of these symptoms are encountered only initially and diminish over time as your body gets used to the medicine. However, you need to call a doctor if your asthma symptoms worsen or if you experience chest pain, tremors, nervousness, throat irritation or choking, wheezing, blurred vision, see halos around lights, suffer from eye pain, or develop signs of infection like chills, fever, sore throat, easy bruising, and bleeding. You should also seek medical help if you notice signs of allergy like swelling of the face, lips, throat or tongue, hives, and breathing difficulty.
Precautions
Long-acting beta agonists such as formoterol carry a risk of asthma-related death. Therefore, Symbicort should not be used in patients whose asthma is controlled well enough with low or medium dose corticosteroids<./p>
Before you start using Symbicort, you should inform your doctor if you are suffering from heart disease, seizures, high blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid disorder, tuberculosis, electrolyte imbalance or infection like herpes in the eyes. When you use the drug for a long time, it may lead to a loss of bone mass, especially if you are not a regular exerciser, smoke often, have a history of osteoporosis, or do not take enough calcium or vitamin D in your diet. Therefore, you should exercise regularly, stop smoking, and have a balanced diet in order to get the desired results and prevent serious side effects.
Symbicort Dosage
If you are more than 12 years of age, you can take Symbicort 2 times a day at an interval of around 12 hours. Initially, your doctor will ask you to take Symbicort 80/4.5 or 160/4.5mg inhalations twice a day, depending on the severity of your asthma. The maximum dosage that you will be allowed to take is usually Symbicort 160/4.5mg two times a day, but if your asthma worsens, then a short acting beta 2 agonist can be inhaled for immediate relief. Make sure that you do not alter your dosage as doing so may result in adverse side effects and even death.
Interactions
You should tell your doctor about all the medicines, whether prescription or non-prescription, that you are taking at present. He or she will not recommend you to buy Symbicort if you are already taking antibiotics like Azithromycin, Clarithromycin, Erythromycin or Telithromycin. You should also not take this drug if you are taking anti-fungal medicines like Ketoconazole, Itraconazole, or diuretic or water pills. MAO inhibitors like Isocarboxazid, Phenelzine, Rasagiline, Selegiline, and Tranylcypromine may also interact with Symbicort adversely. Antidepressants like Amitriptyline, Amoxapine, Clomipramine, Desipramine, Imipramine, Nortriptyline, Protriptyline or Trimipramine should not be taken with Symbicort, as they may worsen the side effects that are associated with the drug.
