General Information on Synvisc One
Synvisc One or Hylan G-F 20 is a single intra-articular injection used for treating knee pain in patients suffering from osteoarthritis. Your doctor will only recommend you to buy Synvisc One if you have not responded to other treatment methods like exercise, physical therapy and Acetaminophen. Hyaluronate sodium is similar to a naturally occurring substance that acts as a shock absorber and lubricant in the patient’s joints. Synvisc One helps the body produce more of this fluid so that the knee can move smoothly, thus reducing pain. Synvisc One is classified as a medical device and not a drug.
Side Effects for Synvisc One
At first, you may experience increased pain and swelling at the injection site, but this will diminish after a few hours. If you experience difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, and hives, then you may be allergic to this product; if so, you need to discontinue using it and seek immediate medical help. You need to contact your doctor immediately if you experience nausea, flushing of the face, swelling on the lips, calf cramps, dizziness, itching skin, infection in the injection site, muscle pain, rapid heartbeat, skin rash, headache, pain on one side of the body, nausea, tiredness, and anxiety.
Precautions
You will not be advised to take a Synvisc One shot if you are suffering from a skin disease or if you are allergic to feathers, egg products, or avian proteins. You should avoid doing any activities that place stress on your knee joints, such as playing tennis, jogging, heavy lifting, or standing on your feet for a long time within 48 hours of taking the Synvisc One shot. Using tobacco or alcohol may worsen the side effects or prevent the drug from doing its job well enough. You should talk to your healthcare professional about whether you can take alcohol and tobacco in limited amounts or if you will have to stop these habits completely.
Synvisc One Dosage
Synvisc One 6ml injection is given only once in one knee via an 18-20 gauge needle. Your doctor will first clean your knee with iodine and alcohol and then anaesthetize the area. He/she will then remove excess synovial fluid before giving you the injection and will use separate syringes for withdrawing the synovial fluid and injecting the medicine. The syringe with the medicine should be used only once, and the leftover content should be discarded. This injection is an intra-articular one and should not be given in your artery or vein.
Interactions
You must inform your doctor about all the over the counter medicines, prescription drugs, and herbal products you are using at present. Your doctor will not recommend you to buy Synvisc One if you are already using drugs like Zephiran chloride, Benzalkonium, Benzocaine, Cetylpyridinium, or Lidocaine. If you need to go through a surgical procedure during Synvisc One treatment, then inform your surgeon about the treatment.
