General Information On Taxotere
Taxotere or Docetaxel is used for treating different types of cancers, including breast cancer, prostate cancer, stomach cancer, head or neck cancer, and lung cancer. The medicine belongs to the category of taxanes and works by slowing down the growth and spread of cancer cells. Your doctor will recommend you to buy Taxotere if you have already gone through chemotherapy but have not achieved the desired results.
Side Effects for Taxotere
Loss of appetite, constipation, dizziness, fatigue, excessive tearing, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, and swelling or pain at the site of injection are some of the common side effects of Taxotere. Temporary nail changes and hair loss may also occur but will cease once the treatment is over. You may need to contact your doctor if you are experiencing any of the serious side effects of the medicine such as swelling of the hands, legs or feet, unexplained weight gain, joint or muscle pain, tingling or numbness in the feet or hands, severe pain in the stomach, eye pain, bloody or black stools, decrease in the frequency of urine, severe headache and irregular heartbeat. Serious allergic reactions are very rare, but you need to contact your doctor if you experience rashes, swelling or itching in the face, throat, or tongue, breathing difficulties, or severe dizziness.
Precautions
Taxotere can lead to severe nausea and vomiting. In order to relieve these side effects, you should not eat before the treatment process. Making changes in your diet like eating many small meals during the day and limiting your physical activities can prevent or lessen some of the side effects of the medicine. Your doctor will not advise you to buy Taxotere if you are already suffering from liver problems, heart problems like congestive heart failure, lung problems like pulmonary effusions, or weak immunity disorders like neutropenia.
Before taking the drug, you should also tell your doctor if you have a history of blood pressure problems or blood problems like thrombocytopenia or anemia. Limit your intake of alcoholic beverages, as alcohol may aggravate dizziness, which is a side effect of the medicine. This drug should not be taken by pregnant women, as it may harm the unborn baby. As the drug hampers your immune system, you should try to stay away from sick people and unhygienic environments.
Taxotere Dosage
The recommended dosage is Taxotere 60-100mg/m2 given intravenously once in 3 weeks. The drug is given slowly in the vein of the patient, and the infusion may take up to one hour, along with other cancer medications. Depending on the type of cancer and your medical condition, the dosage of the drug may change accordingly. You may also be given steroids for a few days before you are given the Taxotere injection in order to prevent some of the side effects of the medicine.
Interactions
Live vaccines can interact adversely with Taxotere. Other medicines that can affect the performance of the medicine may be azole anti-fungals like Itraconazole, macrolide antibiotics like Erythromycin, Rifamycins like Rifabutin, HIV drugs like Ritonavir, and St. John’s Wort. Inform your doctor about all the medications you are presently taking.
