General Information on Tazorac
Tazorac is a topical medication used for treating skin problems like acne vulgaris and other conditions. When Tazarotene (its generic name) is applied in small doses, it can effectively treat acne, but if less than 20% of your body has been affected with stable plaque psoriasis, then a higher dose of the medication will be more effective. You can buy Tazorac in either a cream or gel form, and it can also be used to treat other problems of the skin like signs of aging, wrinkles, non-cancerous freckles, and mottled dark and light skin patches.
Side Effects for Tazorac
Irritation, itching, redness, swelling, dry skin, scaling, burning, stinging , and pain at the site of application are some of the common side effects associated with Tazorac. However, if any of these worsen or persist, you need to contact your doctor immediately. You should also inform your doctor if there is severe redness, peeling, or irritation at the application site. A small majority of people also complained of having pruritus, erythema, worsening of psoriasis, bleeding, skin inflammation, and fissuring. If you are using Tazorac for treating acne, you may experience desquamation, localized edema, blister, skin discoloration, and fissuring. You may also be allergic to the drug, which can be identified by trouble breathing, itching or swelling of the tongue, face, or throat, rash, and severe dizziness.
Precautions
Tazorac is not recommended for pregnant women, as it may lead to birth defects in unborn babies. Before prescribing Tazarotene, your doctor will take your pregnancy test, which should be negative prior to 2 weeks of starting the treatment. While using Tazorac, you should avoid being exposed to direct sunlight and artificial UV rays and wear protective clothes and apply sunscreen during the day. You should not use the cream on your skin if it is sunburned, dry, irritated, or chapped. This medication is not to be used on wounds or eczema-affected areas. Avoid using any other topical products on the area, including medicated shampoos or soaps, spices, astringents, alcohol products, electrolysis, waxes, or chemical hair removers and permanent wave solutions. These may further irritate your skin or make it extremely dry.
Tazorac Dosage
For treating psoriasis, Tazorac 0.05% in gel form will be prescribed to you, which can be increased to Tazorac 0.1% if needed. If you are using it to treat acne, you can start with Tazorac 0.1% to be applied once a day. Before applying the medication, make sure that the area is clean and dry. Tazorac should be applied only on the affected area, as it can cause damage to normal skin. Your doctor will advise you to apply the medicine preferably before going to bed and will also assess your condition every 10-12 weeks.
Interactions
Your doctor will not recommend you to buy Tazorac if you are already using thiazide diuretics like hydrochlorothiazide or chlorthalidone, tetracycline antibiotics like doxycycline or tetracycline, fluoroquinolone antibiotics like lomefloxacin or ofloxacin, sulfonamide antibiotics like sulfisoxazole or sulfamethoxazole, and phenothiazines like prochlorperazine or promethazine.
