General Information on Tekturna HCT

Tekturna HCT is a medication taken for treating high blood pressure. It is a combination of two drugs, the generic names of which are Aliskiren and Hydrochlorothiazide. It is a part of the anti-hypertensive group of medicines. Tekturna HCT is an oral tablet which acts by relaxing the blood vessels so that blood can flow through them more easily. Hydrochlorothiazide acts as a water pill and causes the body to dispose of extra water and salt. Usually, this drug is recommended only if one single medicine is not able to control hypertension.

Side Effects for Tekturna HCT

Diarrhea, upset stomach, cough, and lightheadedness may occur initially, but they improve on their own as your body adjusts to the drug. Hydrochlorothiazide present in Tekturna HCT may cause your body to loose too much water, salt, and minerals, due to which you may become dehydrated. Symptoms of dehydration include nausea, vomiting, muscle cramps, extreme thirst, and dry mouth, and severe dizziness, unusual decrease in urine, confusion, seizures, and even fainting. Some patients may also experience serious side effects of the drug, which include joint pain, eye pain, poor vision, and increased urination or thirst. You should inform your doctor at once if you experience yellowing of the eyes or skin, severe abdominal or stomach pain, fever, throat soreness, dark urine, signs of infection, and unusual changes in the amount of urine you produce.

An allergy to Tekturna HCT may be characterized by severe dizziness, difficulty breathing, hives, rashes and swelling on the throat, lips and tongue. If you develop any of these symptoms, you should immediately stop taking Tekturna HCT and seek medical help.

Precautions

Before you buy Tekturna HCT, you should inform your doctor if you are suffering from anuria, liver or kidney disease, lupus, untreated mineral imbalance, gout, high cholesterol or triglyceride, sympathectomy, or if you are already dehydrated. In order to lower the risk of lightheadedness, you should rise slowly from a lying or sitting position. Tekturna HCT can cause major changes in your blood sugar levels, and therefore, you should tell your doctor beforehand if you are suffering from diabetes. You should also inform him/her if you are taking salt substitutes or potassium supplements, as this drug may decrease or increase potassium levels in your blood too. This drug makes your skin more sensitive to the sun, so while going out, you should not forget to apply sunscreen with SPF15 and wear protective clothes.

Tekturna HCT Dosage

Tekturna HCT is available in two strengths: Tekturna HCT 300/25mg and 300/12.5mg. The dosage recommended to you depends on your response to the treatment and your medical condition. Your lifestyle and the foods you eat also affect the way in which Tekturna HCT is absorbed by your body. The Tekturna HCT tablets can be taken orally before or after meals. This medicine needs to be taken regularly, and you should take it at almost the same time every day.

Interactions

Some of the drugs that may interact adversely with Tekturna HCT include atorvastatin, digoxin, dofetilide, cisapride, and diazoxide. You should also not take this medicine with corticosteroids such as prednisone, other water pills or diuretics such as spironolactone, azole antifungals such as itraconazole, and ACE inhibitors like lisinopril.
