General Information On Tekturna HCT
Tekturna HCT is an anti hypertensive drug that belongs to a class of drugs called direct rennin inhibitors. It carries out its action by inhibiting the enzyme rennin- which is involved in a cascade of reactions that ultimately cause constriction of blood vessels and therefore, increase in blood pressure. Tekturna HCT is used to treat cases of primary hypertension as part of the initial therapy, wherein patients may be required to take more than one drug to adequately control their blood pressure.
Side Effects/Precautions For Tekturna HCT
Tekturna HCT is a formulation containing Aliskiren and Hydrochlorothiazide. Side effects associated with brand or generic Tekturna HCT are usually those associated with each of the two component drugs in the formulation. The two serious side effects of this medication are angioedema, which is characterized by swelling of the face and neck including the tongue, lips and larynx and hypotension or low blood pressure. Low blood pressure is usually seen in those patients who regularly consume low salt diet while being treated with Tekturna HCT drug. Other less serious side effects of this drug include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, skin rashes and fatigue. When used along with ACE inhibitors, this medication may also cause depletion in blood potassium levels.
Patients must be careful of any other medication that they may be consuming with Aliskiren and Hydrochlorothiazide combination. Since there haven't been many studies regarding specific drug interactions of brand or generic Tekturna HCT, patients are usually advised to avoid those drugs that may adversely react with each of the two component drugs present in this formulation. This medication is known to cause injury and sometimes even death to the developing fetus; therefore it must be avoided by pregnant women. Nursing mothers are also advised to refrain from consuming Tekturna HCT drug as it may be secreted in breast milk.
