General Information on Temodar

Temodar is used for the treatment of brain cancer of certain types. Its generic name is Temozolomide, and it is part of the therapeutic group of drugs known as antineoplastics. You can buy Temodar in the form of oral tablets. It is a chemotherapy drug that works by slowing down the growth and spread of cancer cells. The drug is usually given to a patient after the unsuccessful trial of other cancer medications. Temodar can also be used for treating other cancers, including bone cancer.

Side Effects for Temodar

Temodar patients commonly complain of hair loss, tiredness, constipation, diarrhea, mild itching or skin rash, blurred vision, dizziness, insomnia, and an unpleasant or unusual taste in the mouth. Most side effects are temporary and subside as your body adjusts to the medicine. However, you need to inform your doctor if you suffer from seizures, tingling or numbness on one side of the body, or signs of infection like fever, throat soreness, chills, loss of appetite, unusual weakness, nausea or vomiting. You should also seek medical help if you have dry cough, shortness of breath, night sweats, weight loss, or burning or pain while urinating.

You should also stop taking Temodar if you have a known allergy to it. Such a reaction can be identified by rashes, hives, severe dizziness, difficulty breathing or swelling on the lips, face, tongue and throat.

Precautions

Before you buy Temodar, you should inform your doctor if you have a kidney or liver disease, blood cell disorder, or decreased bone marrow function. As easy bruising and bleeding is a common side effect of this drug, you should avoid being near sharp objects such as nail cutters and razors. Use a soft-bristle tooth brush to avoid bleeding gums. Maintain personal hygiene in order to avoid any new infection. In order to relieve vomiting, you should not eat anything before taking the tablets. Temodar 5mg, 20mg, 100mg, 140mg, 180mg, and 250mg tablets are available for purchase. The dosage recommended to you depends on your medical condition, intensity of the disease, other medical conditions you are suffering from, and how your body is responding to the treatment. The tablets need to be swallowed whole with water. They should not be crushed, opened, chewed or dissolved. Avoid getting Temodar in contact with your mucous membranes, such as the nose.

Interactions

Some medicines that may interact with Temodar include steroids such as prednisone, sulfa drugs such as septra and bactrim, carbamazepine, phenytoin, valproid acid, and divalproex sodium. Apart from these, you should also inform your doctor about all the prescription and non-prescription drugs you are taking at present. Depending on such information, your doctor will decide what dosage should be given to you and what adjustments need to be made.
