General Information on Teveten Plus
Teveten Plus is a medication used for lowering high blood pressure. It is a combination of two drugs, the generic names of which are Eprosartan and Hydrochlorothiazide. Eprosartan belongs to the category of angiotensin II receptor blockers, and Hydrochlorothiazide is a water pill or thiazide diuretic. Teveten Plus is an oral tablet, and its constituent Eprosartan blocks the angiotensin II enzyme, which attaches itself to the walls of the blood vessels, causing the blood pressure to rise. Hydrochlorothiazide helps in controlling blood pressure by disposing of extra water and salt from the patient’s body. This drug can only keep your blood pressure under control, but it cannot cure your condition.
Side Effects for Teveten Plus
Teveten Plus patients usually complain of headache, vomiting, problems urinating, tiredness, dizziness, fatigue, weakness, nausea and diarrhea. Most of these side effects are temporary and subside as your body gets used to the drug. Sometimes, Teveten Plus may dehydrate you, as Hydrochlorothiazide eliminates excess water and salt from your body. You should watch out for symptoms like dehydration, including excessive thirst, increased or decreased urination, changes in heart rhythm, and pale skin. Some of the rare but serious side effects of Teveten Plus include muscle pain, sore throat, skin rash, itchiness, mouth ulcers, jaundice, and tingling or numbness in the feet or hands. You should also stop taking Teveten Plus if you faint or have difficulty breathing or swallowing. You should also contact your doctor if you experience swelling of the hands, feet, face, throat, mouth or inside your nose.
You should also not take Teveten Plus if you develop symptoms of allergic reactions after taking the drug. Such symptoms include hives, rashes, difficulty breathing, severe dizziness, or swelling on the face, throat, lips or tongue.
Precautions
You should not buy Teveten Plus if you are already taking a drug for treating high blood pressure. You should also inform your doctor if you have an allergy to certain foods, preservatives or dyes, or if you are suffering from asthma, diabetes, lupus erythematosus, kidney or liver disease, heart problems, or gout. Pregnant women and lactating mothers are also not advised to take Teveten Plus, as it may cause harm to the unborn or nursing baby.
Teveten Plus Dosage
The dosage recommended for you depends on your medical condition, other medical conditions you are suffering from, other drugs you are taking at present, your age, and also your response to treatment. Usually, you will be given one Teveten Plus 600/12.5mg once a day. You need to remember that this drug does not cure high blood pressure, but only keeps it under control. This means that as soon as you will stop taking it, your blood pressure will rise. Therefore, you will need to continue taking Teveten Plus for a long time.
Interactions
Taking Teveten Plus with other drugs like water pills or diuretics can make your blood pressure plummet. This can worsen your condition. You should also inform your doctor if you are taking potassium supplements or medicines used for the treatment of fever, arthritis, or pain.
