General Information On Tracleer
Tracleer is a drug used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Since this drug can cause serious liver damage and be potentially fatal to developing fetuses, it is made available only to those patients who are clearly in need for this medication by a program called the Tracleer Distribution Program (TDP). Chemically, Tracleer is a dual endothelin receptor antagonist. This medication is generally used to treat those PAH patients who show WHO class II - IV symptoms.
Side Effects/Precautions For Tracleer
Tracleer (Bosentan) is known to cause some very serious liver related diseases including liver failure and unexplained hepatic cirrhosis. It is mandatory for all patients seeking treatment with brand or generic Tracleer to have their liver examined prior to treatment and undergo regular liver function tests during treatment. Respiratory tract infection, edema, rash, head ache and low platelet levels have all been associated with use of Tracleer drug.
Patients under treatment with Cyclosporine A and Glyburide should not consume Bosentan tablets. This medication may also have a detrimental effect on sperm counts. It must be discontinued if symptoms of pulmonary edema develop following its administration. During treatment with brand or generic Tracleer, it is also important to have their blood counts regularly monitored as it has been known to cause decrease in hemoglobin levels. Pregnant women and women planning on getting pregnant during treatment must, at all costs, avoid Traclear drug as its can cause some very serious, potentially fatal adverse effects in such patients. Women undergoing treatment must get regular pregnancy tests done to ensure that they are not pregnant. Nursing mothers are also advised to refrain from using this drug as it is not known whether it is excreted through breast milk.
