General Information on Trecator
Trecator is used for the treatment of tuberculosis. Doctors usually prescribe this medicine along with other medicines for tuberculosis treatment. As this drug comes under the category of antibiotics, it works by killing the bacteria that is causing the infection. You should not use this medicine for treatment of infections that are being caused by viruses or yeast. The chemical name of this medicine is Ethionamide.
Side Effects of Trecator
Like most medicines, this medication may also cause certain undesirable side effects. With that said, it is important to understand that: (1) this medicine rarely causes any serious side effects, (2) your doctor prescribed this drug to you because he/she believed that the benefits for you are much greater than the negative effects, and (3) you should immediately contact your doctor or seek emergency medical help if there are any serious side effects. Below are the common, uncommon, and rare side effects of this medicine.
Common side effects of this drug are: metallic taste in the mouth, increased saliva production, pain in the abdomen, nausea, vomiting, appetite loss, or diarrhea. Do not stop the medication if you notice these side effects. If any of the above symptoms exacerbate or persist, then you must contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Uncommon but serious side effects of this medicine include the following: constant fatigue, unusual hunger and/or sweating, dark-colored urine, yellowing of the skin and/or eyes, unusually slow heartbeat, pain in the joints, swelling of the joints, or mental/mood changes (signs are restlessness, nervousness, and depression). Contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately if you experience any of the above-mentioned symptoms.
Rare but serious side effects of this medicine include: blurred or decreased or double vision, color blindness, tingling sensation or numbness in the arms and/or legs, and pain in the eye(s). Contact your doctor immediately if you notice any of these symptoms.
In extremely rare cases, Ethionamide may trigger a serious allergic reaction. If that happens, you must immediately stop the medication and seek emergency medical help. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: trouble breathing, severe dizziness, skin rashes, hives, or itching/swelling.
Precautions

Trecator Dosage

If the medication is causing nausea/vomiting, or stomach upset, then you should take the medicine with food.
