General Information On Trizivir

Trizivir is used for controlling HIV. Its generic name is Abacavir/ Lamivudine/ Zidovudine, and it is an anti-viral medication. This medicine is available in the form of oral tablets. It works by inhibiting the spread of HIV, minimizing the possibility of infections, and preventing cancer. HIV depends on human cells to multiply and spread. Trizivir invades the infected cells in the body, interferes with their DNA chain, and terminates it. After this, the HIV-1 infected cells become ineffective and cannot multiply further. Trizivir can only control the HIV infection and cannot cure it. This drug is not given to patients who weigh less than 90 pounds.

Side Effects for Trizivir

Some common side effects that Trizivir patients may experience include strange dreams, sleeping trouble, mild diarrhea, headache, anxiety, depression and changes in the location and shape of their body fat, especially in the legs, arms, neck, face, trunk, and breasts. Trizivir may (in rare cases) cause liver problems in the patient, identified by low fever, dark urine, jaundice, loss of appetite, stomach pain, and clay-colored stools. Sometimes, it can also lead to lactic acidosis. Its symptoms are numbness or a cold feeling in the legs or arms, dizziness, weakness, tiredness, muscle weakness, and pain, trouble breathing, and nausea. If you develop any of these symptoms, you should not stop taking the drug; instead, inform your doctor about these immediately.

Symptoms of an allergic reaction to Trizivir are fever, rash, body ache, general tiredness, shortness of breath, sore throat, cough, diarrhea, stomach pain, vomiting or nausea. If you have developed an allergic reaction after taking Trizivir, you should stop using it and never take it again.

Precautions

Before you buy Trizivir, you should inform your doctor if you have an allergy to any of its ingredients. Special tests and dosage adjustments will be needed if you are suffering from high blood pressure, kidney disease, hepatitis B, heart disease, high cholesterol, diabetes, or if you smoke. HIV can pass to the unborn baby from the pregnant mother. Therefore, you should tell your doctor if you are pregnant, so that necessary dosage adjustments can be made. Even if your baby has been born without HIV, he/she can still contract it through your breast milk. Therefore, you should also tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding. It is not yet known whether Trizivir can harm an unborn or nursing baby, so you should use this medicine during these conditions with caution.

Trizivir Dosage

Trizivir is available in 300/150/300mg strength. You will need to take the tablet twice a day, with or without meals, followed by a full glass of water. This is a drug that you will need to take for a long period, perhaps for your entire life. This means that you will be fine as long as you are taking this drug.

Do not buy Trizivir along with other medicines that may interact with it. Such drugs include methadone, ribavirin, interferon, doxorubicin, ganciclovir, sulfa drugs and other HIV medicines.
