General Information On Uroxatral
Uroxatral is used to treat an enlarged prostate. This condition is also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH. Uroxatral belongs to a group of medicines called alpha blockers. As the name suggests, Uroxatral blocks the alpha receptors present in the muscle of the prostate gland. The generic name of the drug is Alfuzosin hydrochloride.
The prostate gland is only found in men and is present at the top of the urethra. Due to old age and various other reasons, the prostate gland becomes enlarged and presses down on the urethra, thus obstructing urine flow. Uroxatral helps relax the muscles of the prostate gland and allows the urine to flow unhindered. It must be noted that Uroxatral only helps relieve the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia and does not cure the condition as a whole.
