General Information On Vantas
Vantas is used to treat symptoms of prostate cancer in men. The generic name of this drug is Histrelin. It is not meant to be used by women and children.
Vantas is not a cure for prostate cancer. The drug only treats the symptoms associated with prostate cancer such as painful/difficult urination.
A small implant is surgically placed under the skin of your upper arm. The implant is generally inserted in your non-dominant arm. So if you are right-handed, your doctor is likely to insert the implant under the skin of your left arm. The implant releases a small quantity of Vantas in your blood continuously for a year.
Side Effects for Vantas
Vantas may cause some side effects, especially during the start of treatment. You may experience new or worsening symptoms during the first few weeks of treatment. The symptoms subside or may vanish altogether in 4 weeks, the time your body takes to adjust to the drug. Before you start treatment, talk to your doctor about the possible side effects and the best way to cope with them.
Less serious side effects of Vantas include: nosebleeds, headaches, night sweats, mood changes, constipation, swelling or pain in the testicles, and weight loss or gain.
Serious side effects of Vantas include: numbness or tingling sensation in your feet or legs, severe bone pain, body aches, fever, chills, flu symptoms, painful urination, dark urine, black or tarry stools, loss of appetite, stomach ache, yellowing of the eyes or skin, increased urination or thirst, muscle weakness, decreased bladder or bowel control, confusion, problems with speech, balance, or vision, swelling or redness at the injection site, severe or persistent nausea, chest pain, or a general ill feeling. You should consult your doctor if you experience any of these symptoms during treatment.
In extremely rare cases, patients may experience an allergic reaction. Seek immediate medical help if you experience wheezing, trouble breathing, or swelling on your face.
Precautions
Do not buy Vantas if you are allergic to it. Patients who are hypersensitive to other hormone medications such as Ganirelix, Leuprolide, or Nafarelin should also not buy Vantas.
Before you start treatment, share your medical history with your doctor, especially if you have or ever had any of the following: hypertension (high blood pressure), high cholesterol, diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis, stroke or heart attack, or liver disease.
You should avoid bathing for 24 hours after receiving the implant. In addition, avoid lifting weights or doing any physical activity for a week after the implant.
Vantas Dosage
Your doctor will place a small sterile Vantas implant under the skin of your upper arm through a surgical incision. The implant will release approximately 50 mcg of histrelin acetate each day for a year. After 12 months, your doctor will remove the implant and may insert a new implant as a replacement.
Interactions
Vantas may interact with other drugs. Before you receive the implant, inform your doctor about all the medications that you are taking. Also consult your doctor before starting a new medication during the course of Vantas treatment.
