General Information on Vexol
Vexol is a corticosteroid preparation that is used to treat inflammatory disorders of the eye like uvetitis and also in post operative management of certain eye surgeries. This drug being a steroid exerts most of its action due to its ability to suppress inflammation. Few of its adverse effects are also due to this anti inflammatory action; therefore, a consensus has to be reached on whether this would the best treatment option for you after a discussion with a doctor. Vexol is available as 1% eye drops.
Side Effects /Precautions for Vexol
Vexol or Rimexolone is generally well tolerated with few predictable and manageable side effects like eye irritation, redness, dry eyes, nasal stuffiness and sometimes blurred vision. But occasionally more serious side effects like weakness, sensitivity to light and dizziness and fainting may be seen with the use of brand or generic Vexol.
Due to the steroid nature of Rimexolone, patients with herpes, or any other acute infections should discuss use of this drug with their doctor. It is generally recommended that patients using Vexol drug get their intra ocular pressure and a general eye check up done regularly during the course of treatment. Overuse of these eye drops can lead to decreased rate of wound healing and may lead to fungal infections. Precautions must be taken to make sure that the tip of the medication's dropper is not touched with hands as this may lead to infection. Pregnant women and nursing mothers should use brand or generic Vexol only after discussion with a doctor as this drug's safety in such patients has not yet been clearly established. It must be noted that Vexol drug should be used as eye drops only.
