General Information on Vfend
Vfend is an anti-fungal medication that belongs to the class of triazoles. It is indicated for use in fungal diseases like invasive aspergillosis, candedemia and fusarium solani infections. Vfend tablets are to be taken orally on an empty stomach as many times as directed. Even if improvement is seen in just a few days after beginning the treatment, it important to continue use of the medication for the entire duration of the prescribed course.
Side Effects/ Precautions for Vfend
Some adverse effects of Vfend or Voriconazole are not seen with any other triazoles. These side effects include increased sensitivity to light, blurred vision and other such visual disturbances. Therefore patients, after consumption of brand or generic Vfend must not drive or go out unaccompanied at night. These eye-related symptoms do, however, in most cases go away once the treatment has been completed. Other more common side effects of Vfend drug are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, swelling and respiratory difficulty.
Regular monitoring of liver function is necessary as there have been a few rare cases of liver damage with the use of Vfend drug. Patients with impaired liver function must use this drug with caution. Also, Voriconazole is known to interact adversely with several drugs like rifampicin, terfenadine, barbiturates and sirolimus. Patients under medication with these drugs must seek medical consultation before taking brand or generic Vfend. Some patients may report peeling away or flaking of skin. This can be managed by regular application of coconut oil.
Vfend Dosage
Vfend is available in the form of tablets as well as oral suspension. No matter which form of this medicine is prescribed to the patient, it should be taken at a gap of 1 hour after or before meals. 200mg of this medicine is to be given with a gap of 12 hours to patients whose weight is equal to or more than 40kgs. Patients who weigh less than 40 kg can be given a dose of 100mg at an interval of 12 hours. If the patient does not show any improvement after the above mentioned dosage of Vfend, then the dosage for patients with weight equal to or more than 40kg and for patients who weigh less than 40 kg can be increased to 300mg and 150 mg respectively.
