Viroptic Eye Drops is an anti-viral eye medication. It is used to treat eye infection caused by herpes type 1 and type 2 viruses. Viroptic Eye Drops belong to the group of drugs known as nucleoside analogues; they block certain molecules and thereby inhibit important steps in viral DNA replication. Patients are advised to use this formulation as directed by a physician, but usually these eye drops are not to be administered more than nine times (one drop each application) a day.

The active pharmacological agent in Viroptic Eye Drops is Trifluridine. Commonly reported side effects of this drug include stinging sensation immediately after application; eye related swelling, dryness, redness and increased pressure in the eye.
