General Information On Vytorin
Vytorin is specifically prescribed to treat high cholesterol in adults and children (10 years and above). It is a combination of Ezetimibe and Simvastatin. Ezetimibe works to reduce the absorption of cholesterol in the body. Simvastatin belongs the HMG CoA reductase inhibitor drug family. These are used to lower cholesterol levels in the body. Vytorin works by increasing the levels of good cholesterol and lowering the levels of triglycerides and bad cholesterol in the blood. The drug may prove useful when cholesterol levels cannot controlled by diet and exercise alone. However, you need to consult your doctor before you buy Vytorin to avoid any risk of side effects.
Side Effects for Vytorin
Some people may experience side effects after taking Vytorin. However, it is not necessary that every person taking Vytorin may experience side effects. In fact, many people who take the medication do not complain of any side effects. You may experience muscle problems, change in amount of urine passed, dark urine, yellowing of the skin/eyes, and persistent vomiting/nausea after taking Vytorin. If any of these symptoms surface, you must contact your doctor right away and seek medical help.
Precautions
If you are allergic to any ingredients in the drugs Ezetimibe and Simvastatin you must not take Vytorin. The drug may not be the right medication for people with certain medical conditions. You should also not take Vytorin if you have active liver disease. Doctors may have to adjust the dosage of Vytorin for people who have a history of liver disease, kidney disease, thyroid disorders, diabetes, or if they consume more than two alcoholic beverages a day. You should decrease your alcohol intake when you are on Vytorin as its combination with alcohol may increase the risk of liver problems. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should inform their doctor about their condition. Women of a childbearing age should use effective birth control methods to prevent a pregnancy during the course of treatment.
Vytorin Dosage
The drug is available in the form of tablets that need to taken orally. The tablets are available in four different strengths: Vytorin 10/10, Vytorin 10/20, Vytorin 10/40, and Vytorin 10/80. All Vytorin tablets contain the same percentage of Ezetimibe, which is 10mg. The percentage of Simvastatin in the tablets differs according to the tablet strengths, and the dosage of Vytorin determined by a doctor depends on the individual case or patient being treated. The recommended dosage depends on several factors such as a patient’s medical condition and other drugs the patient may be taking. You should use Vytorin only as recommended by your doctor. The drug can be taken with or without food.
Interactions
Vytorin may interact with other drugs and cause side effects. It may interact with medications such as digoxin, blood thinners (such as Warfarin), or statin medications. Inform your doctor about all the drugs you are taking, including prescribed, non-prescribed, vitamin, or herbal medicines.
