General Information On Xenical

Xenical is specifically prescribed in weight loss programs that are also accompanied by low fat and low calorie diets. The drug is intended to prevent absorption of one third of the fats that enter your body through your diet. Doctors generally prescribe Xenical for people who are obese and also have risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high blood cholesterol, or triglycerides. The generic name of the drug is Orlistat. It belongs to a family of drugs known as lipase inhibitors. The medication is available in the form of a tablet. It works by preventing the function of enzymes that cause the absorption of fat. You may also buy Xenical and use it to maintain your goal weight after you have achieved the intended weight loss by following any weight loss program.

Side Effects for Xenical

Xenical may cause side effects because it inhibits the natural process of the absorption of fats. Some of the common side effects that you may experience after taking Xenical are: increase in frequency of bowel movements, gas, oily/fatty stools, and oily spotting on your undergarments. The side effects may worsen if you have a diet that’s rich in fat. You should immediately talk to your doctor if any side effects become bothersome or persist for a long time.

In rare cases, Xenical may also cause severe side effects in some people. Some of the serious side effects associated with the drug are abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, dark urine, yellowing of the skin/eyes, breathing problems, dizziness, and rash. You should immediately notify your doctor if you notice or experience any severe side effects.

Precautions

Xenical may not be the right medication for people with certain medical conditions. You should not use the drug if you are allergic to any ingredient in it or you suffer from chronic malabsorption syndrome or gall bladder problems. Your doctor will determine if the drug is safe for you before prescribing it. Therefore, you should tell your doctor if you have any medical history of underactive thyroid, gallstones, pancreatitis, diabetes (type 1 or 2), liver disease, or an eating disorder. Your doctor may have to perform special tests or adjust the dosage of medication to make it safe for you. Inform your doctor if you are already using any weight loss medications that can be prescribed or over the counter drugs. To avoid the risk of side effects and other problems, you can only buy Xenical after consulting your doctor

Xenical Dosage

Your doctor will issue specific instructions regarding the dosage of Xenical. The recommended dosage is one Xenical 120mg capsule after every main meal (which contains fat) a day. You need to take around 3 capsules of Xenical a day with a low calorie diet to achieve weight loss. Take the recommended dose of Xenical with meals or within one hour after every meal.

Interactions

Certain drugs interact with each other and cause side effects. These interactions may cause Xenical to affect your body in different way than it should or it may also cause other drugs to affect your body differently. Xenical may interact with diabetes medicines, Insulin, Cyclosporine, Digoxin, Levothyroxine and Warfarin. Tell your doctor about all the medications you are currently taking.
