General Information On Xolair

Xolair is used to treat asthma that is caused due to allergens in the air. The drug is prescribed to adults and children above 12 years of age. The generic name of the drug is Omalizumab. It works by stopping the activity of immunoglobulin E (IgE), a natural substance produced in your body that plays a prominent role in allergic response. The drug is available in the form of an injection. You may buy Xolair if you are not getting relief by using asthma medicines such as inhaled steroids. However, to avoid the risk of side effects, consult your doctor before using the drug.

Side Effects for Xolair

Xolair may cause side effects in some people. Some may experience mild side effects after using the drug, while others may experience serious side effects. In both cases, you should immediately notify your doctor. Itching, stinging, redness or pain, are some of the side effects that you may experience at injection site after taking Xolair. Arm, leg, or ear pain, are also some of the less severe side effects that you may experience after taking the drug. Xolair rarely causes an allergic reaction. You should stop using the medication and consult your doctor if you notice any swelling of the throat/face/tongue or if you experience any chest tightness, breathing problems, or dizziness after taking the medication.

It is not necessary that every person using Xolair will experience any side effects. Many people who take Xolair injection do not complain about any side effects.

Precautions

You should not take Xolair if you are allergic to any ingredient in it. The drug may not be safe for people with certain medical conditions. You should tell your doctor about your medical history before starting the treatment. Pregnant women or nursing mother should discuss the risks and benefits associated with Xolair with their doctor before buying it.

The drug increases the risk of specific types of cancers of the skin, salivary gland, breasts, or prostate. You are more likely to get infected with parasites while taking the drug. Talk to your doctor if you travel or live in an area where you may easily get infected. The drug is a prescription medication, and therefore, you need to consult your doctor before you buy Xolair.

Xolair Dosage

The recommended dosage of Xolair, 150 to 375 mg, is given every 2 or 4 weeks. The recommended dosage is based on IgE levels and body weight. You can receive the Xolair injection in a clinic/hospital setting under your doctor’s supervision. The medication is supplied in a powdered form, which needs to be mixed with a diluent. If you are taking the shot at home, you should learn the right method of mixing the medication (in powdered form) with diluent.

Tell your doctor about every drugs you take, including prescription medicines, over the counter drugs, and herbal supplements. Xolair may interact with other asthma medicines.
