General Information On Xopenex HFA
Xopenex HFA is used to treat the tightness of the airways (referred to as bronchospasm). It is effectively used in adults, adolescents and in children who are 4 years of age or above. The drug is indicated to treat diseases of reversible obstructive airway. Bronchospasm is common in patients who have asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) such as emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Brand or generic Xopenex HFA is an agonist of β-adrenergic receptor that stimulates these receptors present in the muscles of the airway. By stimulating the β-adrenergic receptors the drug causes the bronchial muscles to relax. This relaxation of the smooth muscles opens or widens the respiratory tract and allows free flow of air (or oxygen) to the lungs. The drug also inhibits the inflammatory activities of mast cells within the lungs.
Side Effects / Precautions For Xopenex HFA
If you are hypersensitive or allergic to the contents of brand or generic Xopenex HFA then avoid the administration of the drug. Before administering the drug inform your doctor if you are currently on any other medication like herbal products, over the counter medication or any other prescription drug. Dosages For Xopenex HFA
In the treatment of asthma or for the prevention of the symptoms, the recommended dose of Xopenex HFA is 2 inhalations (equivalent to 90 mcg) per day, which is administered in time intervals of every 4-6 hours. This is the recommended dose of adults and children who are 4 years of age or above. For some patients the dosage of only 1 inhalation (45 mcg) should be sufficient which is administered once in 4 hours time. It is not recommended to administer the drug often or in large amounts. Xopenex HFA drug should be administered as per the instructions or directions of the physician.
