General Information on Zirgan Eye Gel

Eye herpes patients are prescribed Zirgan Eye Gel to treat their infection. This eye gel contains Ganciclovir, which stops the growth of herpes. Even though this gel is simply a means of suppressing the infection, it helps in speeding up the healing process and decreases the risks associated with eye infections. Ganciclovir acts as an antiviral drug, which works only against eye herpes. It is not effective against other types of bacterial eye infections. This eye medicine is a gel, which needs to be applied to the eye drop by drop as per the doctor’s instruction.

Side Effects of Zirgan Eye Gel

The adverse effects of Zirgan Eye Gel vary in intensity depending on the age, gender, weight, and even the ethnicity of the patient. The person’s general state of health and the seriousness of the disease is also a factor in the manifestation of side effects. The application of this medicine can cause temporary blurriness of vision and slight redness or irritation in the eye. Serious allergic reactions are rare and include rashes, swelling of the face, tongue or throat, dizziness, breathing trouble, and itching. If such severe reactions are noticed, the patient must get in touch with the doctor immediately.

Zirgan Eye Gel Precautions

Those who are allergic to Ganciclovir should let their doctor know. If you use any prescription drugs or other medicinal products, you should inform your doctor. Since this drug has not been tested on pregnant women, its effects on breast feeding are unknown. It is better to let your doctor know if you are pregnant so that they can take appropriate precautions if necessary.

Since Zirgan Eye Gel can cause temporary vision problems, one should not drive, use machines, or participate in any physical activity till the vision gets better.

Dosage

Zirgan Eye Gel 0.15% is usually used to treat herpes keratitis. The average recommended dose is five drops of the gel every day, every three hours. The gel should be administered only while the patient is awake to make sure that it goes into the eye. The duration of the treatment lasts for as long as the ulcer persists. Once the eye infection subsides, the treatment is continued for another week, with three drops being used once every five hours. This is done to prevent the recurrence of the infection.

Interactions of Zirgan Eye Gel

The effects of using Zirgan Eye Gel may get altered if you are on some other medication. Inform your doctor about any other drugs you may be using, as they can also increase the chances of side effects. During the course of this treatment, the patient should be very careful not to use contact lenses. Contact lenses absorb the gel and make the treatment ineffective. The contact lens may also get damaged by the gel.

While you are using this medicine, do not start or stop any other medication without the approval of your doctor or without letting the doctor know your full medical history. Buy Zirgan Eye Gel only after the doctor has conducted a full medical background check on you and has prescribed it to you.
