General Information On Zofran Injection

Zofran injection is used for the prevention of vomiting or nausea that is caused by radiation therapy, chemotherapy or surgery. The generic name for this drug is ondansetron, and it belongs to the group of antiemetic drugs. Zofran injection is administered intravenously, and you may buy Zofran injection for other medical purposes if it has been prescribed by your doctor. It works by preventing the chemicals in your body from triggering vomiting and nausea.

Side Effects for Zofran Injection

The symptoms of an allergic reaction to Zofran injection include difficulty in breathing, swollen face, tongue, throat or lips, hives and rashes. The drug should not be administered if you experience any of the above side effects, in which case you should seek immediate medical help.

Serious side effects are rare, and you must inform your doctor and seek immediate medical assistance if they occur. These side effects include temporary blindness, blurred vision, muscle spasms and twitching in the face and neck stiffness, chest pain, constipation, seizure, high blood pressure, and hypokalemia.

Mild side effects of Zofran injection include headache, diarrhea, drowsiness, fever, blurred vision, and pain or redness in the place where the medication was injected. If these side effects persist for a long time or if they worsen, you must inform your doctor as soon as possible.

Precautions

Do not buy Zofran injection if you have a known allergy to ondansetron. Inform your doctor if you are suffering from a liver disease, a family or personal history of suffering from Long QT syndrome, or if you have a known allergy to medications like Dolasetron, Granisetron and Palonosetron, which are similar to ondansetron. Zofran injection can cause certain side effects that impair your ability to react and think. Be cautious while driving or performing any activity that requires a high level of alertness and activity. Zofran Injection Dosage

Zofran injection must be administered as per the directions and the dosage prescribed by the doctor. It is available as a sterile and premixed solution that is usable for a single dose. Each container contains 50ml of Zofran injection solution, with 32mg of ondasetron. The single dose container is recommended for adults, and the 32mg dosage is intravenously infused over a period of 15 minutes. It is recommended that one begin the infusion 30 minutes before the emetogenic chemotherapy begins. The subsequent dosages can be administered 4 hours and 8 hours after the first dosage was administered.

Interactions

Zofran injection may interact with a number of medications, and it has been found to interact with Phenytoin, Carbamazepine, Rifampicin and Tramadol. Inform your doctor about all the prescription drugs and over-the-counter medications that you have taken or are still taking. Also inform your doctor if you are taking any vitamins or mineral supplements or herbal products. You must not stop, start or adjust the dosage of any medication without consulting your doctor.
