Hypercalcemia, the condition in which bone mass loss increases calcium levels in the blood, is one condition that can be treated with Zometa. Multiple myeloma, which results in the formation of tumors due to bone marrow cells, bone metastases, and osteoporosis are other conditions that are treatable with this medication. The risk of bone fractures in patients suffering from cancer can be prevented with Zometa. It is also used for treating Paget’s disease. The medication works by slowing down the breakdown of bones and reducing the release of calcium from the bones.
