General Information On Zovirax Cream

Zovirax Cream is used for the treatment of cold sores on the lips or face caused due to herpes virus. Its generic name is Acyclovir, and it belongs to the category of antiviral medications. This drug is available in the form of a topical cream for application. It works by preventing the replication of the herpes labialis virus which is responsible for the condition. This medicine also reduces chances of recurrence of the herpes virus, and it can also be used for reducing the healing time of lesions and sores. Zovirax Cream only prevents the virus from multiplying and spreading to other people, but it does not completely eliminate the virus.

Side Effects for Zovirax Cream

Zovirax Cream may commonly lead to dryness or flakiness of the skin, cracked or dry lips, stinging or burning in the affected area, and itching. These side effects can be easily tolerated and subside as your condition improves. However, if any of these become unmanageable, you should stop using the cream and contact your doctor. Severe allergic reactions may also occur, such as difficulty breathing, itching, rashes, hives, chest tightness, excessive itching, swelling on the mouth, face, tongue or lips, and severe dizziness.

Precautions

You should not buy Zovirax Cream if you are allergic to it or to any other ingredient in the formulation. Do not forget to wash your hands before and after using Zovirax Cream. Apply the cream only to the infected area without touching the surrounding area. Continue rubbing it in until it gets fully absorbed into the skin. Do not use any dressing or bandage on the area. Do not swim, bathe, or shower right after applying it. Zovirax Cream is not meant to be used for genital herpes or by children less than 12 years of age. Avoid using any other lip balm, sunscreen or cosmetic on the cold sores, as it may cause inflammation. If Zovirax Cream gets into your mouth, eyes or nose, you should flush the area with cool water. If irritation persists, seek medical attention immediately. Pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers should use Zovirax Cream with caution, as it is not yet known whether it is safe in these situations or not.

Zovirax Cream Dosage

You should buy Zovirax Cream and start the treatment as soon as you notice the first signs of cold sores on your mouth. You will need to apply the cream 5 times a day for 4 days. You should continue using the cream even if you feel better. If you show no signs of improvement, your doctor may decide to increase the frequency of its application or use it for more than 4 days. Do not miss any scheduled appointments with your doctor, as he/she may need to adjust the dose as per your response to the treatment.

Interactions

You should inform your doctor about all the prescription and non-prescription drugs you are taking at present, especially topical applications. Do not use any other cosmetic or medicinal product to relieve the side effects without consulting your doctor.
