General Information on Migranal

Migranal is an ergot alkaloid, and it is used to treat migraine and cluster headaches. The generic name of this drug is Dihydroergotamine. It is not a cure for migraines and also does not prevent the occurrence or reduce the severity of future migraine headaches. Migranal relieves the symptoms of a migraine headache that has already begun. The common symptoms of migraine include debilitating pain, increased sensitivity to sound, and increased sensitivity to light. This drug, like other drugs of its class, works by regulating the flow of blood to the brain.

The drug is available in the form of an injection or nasal spray, and is available in Migranal 4mg/ml strength. The following ingredients are used in the formulation– dihydroergotamine Mesylate, dextrose, caffeine, carbon dioxide, and purified water for the injection.

Side Effects for Migranal

Migranal may cause some unwanted side effects. Inform your doctor if you experience any of the following after taking this drug: an allergic reaction (wheezing, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, itching, rashes, hives, and swelling of your lips or face), chest pain, abnormally fast or slow heart rate, sudden weakness or numbness, sudden and severe headache, problems with balance, speech, or vision, bloody diarrhea, stomach cramps, abnormally high blood pressure (chest pain, confusion, shortness of breath, anxiety, blurred vision, dizziness, severe headache, and buzzing in the ears), blue toes or fingers, or feeling of coldness in your feet or hands.

Other common but less serious side effects of this drug are mild headache, dizziness, skin rash, or diarrhea.

The above list does not contain all the possible side effects of Migranal, and some patients may experience side effects that are not listed above. To know the complete list of side effects, read the patient information leaflet that you receive when you buy Migranal.

Precautions

If you are allergic to Dihydroergotamine or any other ingredient used in the formulation, you should not buy Migranal. In addition, patients who are allergic to other ergot medicines such as methylergonovine, ergotamine, or dihydroergotamine should also not buy Migranal.

When taken in certain medical conditions or along with certain drugs, Migranal can cause life-threatening side effects. To ensure the drug is safe for you, inform your doctor about your medical history and all the medicines that you are currently taking.

Tell your doctor in advance if you have or ever had any of the following: hypertension, liver disease, heart disease, breathing problems (such as asthma), kidney disease, or ischemic bowel disease.

Migranal is contraindicated during pregnancy as it can harm an unborn child. Do not buy Migranal if you are pregnant. Use an effective birth control method to avoid pregnancy during treatment. The contents of this drug are excreted into the breast milk and may cause harm to an infant. This is why women who are breastfeeding should not use Migranal.

Migranal Dosage

The dosage varies from individual to individual. After studying the severity of your migraine attacks, your doctor will prescribe an initial dose. Depending on your response to treatment, your doctor may later increase your dosage.

Interactions

Certain drugs such as imatinib, diclofenac, conivaptan, HIV/AIDS medications (such as saquinavir, ritonavir, and others), and hypertension medications (such as verapamil, diltiazem, and others) when taken with Migranal may cause life-threatening side effects. Do not take Migranal if you are taking any of the aforementioned drugs. Other drugs, including herbal supplements and non-prescription medicines, may also interact with Migranal. To avoid any unwanted drug interactions, inform your doctor about all the drugs you are taking.
