General Information on Brovana

Brovana is the brand name for arformoterol, which is a bronchodilator. This particular medication relaxes the muscles around the airways, thus making it easier to breathe. You can buy Brovana for the prevention of bronchoconstriction that occurs in patients suffering from COPD, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, including emphysema and chronic bronchitis.

it is important to understand that Brovana only prevents bronchospasm attacks, and cannot treat one that has already commenced. Your doctor may be prescribed Brovana for other medical purposes as well, even if they are not listed above.

Brovana is available in the form of 2ml vials of inhalation solutions. Each dose contains dose strength of Brovana 15mcg. Other major ingredients used in this solution include sodium citrate and citric acid.

Side effects of Brovana

Brovana may cause serious side effects in rare cases. Some of them are given below:

  • Sores or white patches inside the mouth or on the lips
  • Rapid weight gain, swelling
  • Falling short of breath after mild exertion
  • Wheezing, breathing problems, chest tightness and other signs of bronchospasms
  • Restlessness, rapid and pounding heartbeat, chest pain, tremors
  • Increased thirst, dry mouth, restlessness, drowsiness, nausea, confusion, increased urination, vomiting, rapid heart rate, muscle weakness or pain

Brovana may also cause milder side effects, such as those given below:

  • Deep or hoarse voice
  • Stuffy nose
  • Fever
  • Leg cramps
  • Diarrhea, vomiting and nausea
  • Sleeping problems
  • Weakness, headache

You must not buy Brovana if you have previously suffered from an allergy to arformoterol. Signs of an allergy would include the occurrence of hives, breathing difficulties and a swollen face or throat.

Dosage of Brovana

The exact procedure of administering Brovana would be explained by your doctor, which you must follow. Do not attempt to use the inhalation solution if you are not clear on the procedure. It is best if you clear any doubt you have related to this with your doctor or pharmacist. You can also refer to the patient information leaflet that comes with the Brovana pack.

You must not use Brovana for treating a bronchospasm attack that has already started; the solution can only be used for fast-acting inhalation. If you have changed to Brovana from a short-acting bronchodilator, you stop using your previous one and administer it only in case of a sudden attack.

Brovana is administered through a standard jet nebulizer machine. This machine is connected to the air compressor. You must not mix Brovana with another inhalation drug inside the nebulizer. You must also maintain and clean the machine to avoid this. You must not take Brovana solution orally. If this occurs by accident, you would need immediate medical help.

  • Antibiotics
  • Antidepressants
