General Information On Ceraxon

Ceraxon (generic name: Citicoline) is generally used along with blood thinners like warfarin for preventing the formation of blood clots after a heart valve replacement. Citicoline belongs to the category of platelet inhibitors, which boost blood flow and avert the formation of blood clots by preventing the platelets from clumping together. By relaxing the blood vessels, the drug helps in warding off further complications related to clots, such as heart attacks, pulmonary embolisms, and strokes. Sometimes, your doctor may also suggest that you buy Ceraxon as a supplement for improving your learning, memory, and thinking capabilities. The medicine is available in an oral tablet form with a strength of 500mg.

Side Effects for Ceraxon

Diarrhea, stomach upset, dizziness, headache, vomiting, and flushing are common side effects of the drug, but most of them subside as your body gets used to the medicine. However, you should inform your doctor at once if you experience weakness, stomach pain, fainting, pounding heartbeat, dark urine, yellowing of the skin or eyes, and unusual bruising or bleeding. Also keep a watch for some serious but rare side effects of Ceraxon, which may include chest pain, severe headache, confusion, vision changes, slurred speech, and weakness in one side of your body. An allergic reaction to the drug can be identified by rashes, severe dizziness, swelling or itching of the throat, tongue, face or lips, and trouble breathing.

Precautions

Before you take Ceraxon, you should inform your doctor if you have an allergy to Citicoline or to any active or inactive ingredient in the medicine. You should also consult him/her if you have a medical history of liver disease or a heart problem like a recent heart attack, severe coronary artery disease, or low blood pressure. As the drug makes you dizzy, you should not drive a vehicle, use a machine, or do any such activity that requires you to be completely alert. You should also limit your alcohol intake, as it may worsen the side effects of Ceraxon. If you are to undergo a surgery, do not forget to inform your doctor or surgeon that you are on Ceraxon treatment. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you should take the medicine only if it is clearly needed, because its safety during these conditions has not been established.

Ceraxon Dosage

Your doctor will advise you to take Ceraxon 500mg tablet orally 2 times a day. It would be better to take the medicine on an empty stomach, but if you suffer from a stomach upset, you may be advised to take it with meals. Sometimes, your doctor may ask you to take Ceraxon 500mg tablet 4 times a day, depending on your age, condition, and response to treatment. The dosage should not exceed Ceraxon 2000mg a day, and you should not stop taking Ceraxon without consulting your doctor, even if your symptoms have been relieved.

Interactions

If you take aspirin, you should ask your doctor if it’s safe to use this drug along with Ceraxon. Your doctor will not recommend you to buy Ceraxon if you are using blood thinners like heparin, dalteparin, fondaparinux, enoxaparin, or tinzaparin, and medicines, which affect your platelets like eptifibatide, abciximab, ticlopidine, or lepirudin. Also do not take neostigmine, valproic acid, or pyridostigmine with Citicoline.
