Combivent is specifically prescribed to prevent and treat symptoms of lung disease. The generic name of the drug is Albuterol and Ipratropium. The medication is actually a combination of two drugs Albuterol (also known as Salbutamol) and Ipratropium. Combivent works to relax the muscles around the airways. This leads to the opening of airways, which causes increased flow of air to the lungs. Combivent can be useful in preventing bronchospasm in people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
