General Information on Intelence

Iltelence (Etravirine) falls under the category of non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) drugs. As opposed to other drugs in this class, resistance toward other NNRTIs does not make a person resistant to Etravirine.

Intelence should be combined with other HIV medications to decrease the viral load in patients who are already undergoing treatment for HIV. People on anti-HIV medication develop resistance toward non-nukes after some time, and the infection becomes difficult to control. If non-nukes have stopped working for the patient, Intelence should be used along with nucleotide or nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors, which are known as nukes.

Side Effects of using Intelence

A common side effect of Intelence is skin rash. Rash outbreak as a side effect of this medication is very serious and can be life threatening. Your doctor should be consulted at once if any outbreak occurs. Any allergic reactions towards Etravirine can affect the liver or other organs. Some common symptoms include fever, a sick feeling, tiredness, joint or muscle pain, oral sores, blisters, eye irritation, swelling of the face, eye, lips or mouth, breathing problem, yellowing of the skin, nails, and eyes, loss of appetite, vomiting, and liver problems. These are the serious side effects that require immediate medical attention. Other less severe side effects include muscle pain, weakness, numb feeling, tingling in the hands and feet, and changes in body frame or weight gain.

Another complication that may arise from using Intelence is immune reconstitution syndrome. As the medicines work at strengthening the immune system and control HIV infection, there can be some inflammations from opportunistic infections. This is a serious condition, and the doctor should be informed of it. However, the medication should not be stopped unless the doctor says so.

Precautions while using Intelence

Liver problems and kidney disorders should be reported to the doctor before you buy Intelence. It is a B category medicine, which means it does not have serious effects on pregnant ladies, but nursing mothers should take doctor’s advice before continuing the medication while breastfeeding. It should be remembered that this drug is not a cure for HIV or AIDS, but is just a means of boosting the immune system; therefore, one should practice safe sex even while on this medication.

Iltelence Dosage

The usual recommended dose is Intelence 200mg taken twice a day after meals. This medicine is available in tablet form, and if the patient has difficulty swallowing it, then it can be dissolved in water and taken.

Ideally, it should be taken at the same time every day so that the level of Etravirine in the blood is even. Since missing a dose may make the drug less effective, you should be careful with your intake schedule. However, you should not take extra medicines to make up for missing a dose as it can cause adverse reactions.

Interactions with other medicines

Combining Intelence with other medicines may reduce its effectiveness. Blood thinners such as Coumadin and Jantoven interact with Intelence. Plavix, Prezista, Kaletra, Valium, cholesterol medications, antibiotics, antifungal medicines and heart rhythm medications interact with the Etravirine present in Intelence and reduce its effectiveness.

Buy Intelence only with a prescription and follow dosages and other advice as prescribed by your doctor closely to avoid complications.
