General Information on Minocin

Minocin is used to treat bacterial infections such as severe acne, gonorrhea, respiratory infections, tick fever, chalmydia, and respiratory infections. The generic name of this drug is Minocycline, and it falls under a category of drugs referred to as tetracycline antibiotics.

Like other drugs of its class, Minocin works by stalling the growth of infection-causing bacteria. This drug is used only to treat bacterial infections. You should not buy Minocin for the treatment of viral or yeast infections.

Minocin is available in the form of an oral tablet. Each tablet contains Minocycline (active ingredient) and the following inactive constituents: Edetate Calcium Disodium, Calcium Hydroxide, Alcohol, Cellulose, Butylparaben, Guar Gum, Polysorbate 80, Sodium Saccharin, Sorbitol, Propylene Glycol, and Sodium Sulfite.

Side Effects For Minocin

The side effects of Minocin are divided in two categories: less severe and severe. Some of the less severe side effects of Minocin include mild nausea, vomitting, headache, ringing in the ears, and increased sensitivity to sunlight, dizziness, upset stomach, difficulty swallowing, and appetite loss. Do not stop or alter the dosage if you notice any of the aforementioned symptoms. In case any of these symptoms become bothersome, you must consult your doctor.

Stop your medication if you experience an allergic reaction (hives, swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing, and skin rashes) or any of the following side effects after taking Minocin: tooth discoloration, muscle weakness, less than normal or no urination, joint pain, chest pain, unexplained and sudden weight gain, mental/mood changes (such as confusion, anxiety, or depression), dark-colored urine, bloody or tarry stools, yellowing of the skin or eyes, seizure, bloody or watery diarrhea, or irregular heart rhythm.

The drug may also trigger side effects that are not included above. Read the patient information leaflet that is provided to you when you buy Minocin to know all the possible side effects of this drug.

Precautions

The drug is contraindicated in patients who have a known hypersensitivity to Minocycline or to other tetracyclines. Before you buy Minocin, inform your doctor if you have/have had any of the following: asthma, kidney disease, sulfite allergy, or liver disease.

Minocin is contraindicated in pregnant and lactating women. This drug reduces the efficacy of birth control pills. To prevent pregnancy during treatment, your doctor is likely to recommend that you use a non-hormonal birth control method.

Minocin is contraindicated in children below 8 years of age as it can cause certain health problems such as permanent tooth discoloration.

Minocin Dosage

Your doctor will determine the correct dosage for you after studying the following: severity of your bacterial infection, your response to treatment, your medical history, and other drugs that you are taking. For best results, it is imperative that you take Minocin exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

Interactions

Some drugs may decrease the efficacy of Minocin or increase some of its side effects. Before you buy Minocin, inform your doctor about all the drugs you are taking, especially hypertension or heart medicines (such as enalapril, ramipril, quinapril, benazepril, and others), NSAIDs (such as naproxen, meloxicam, celecoxib, ibuprofen, and others), blood thinners (such as warfarin), antifungal medicines (such as voriconazole, ketoconazole, miconazole, and others), migraine medicines (such as dihydroergotamine or ergotamine), or cholesterol medicines (such as simvastatin, rosuvastatin, niacin, and others).
