General Information On Promacta

Promacta is used for preventing bleeding episodes in patients suffering from chronic immune thrombocytopenis purpura or ITP, a condition that occurs due to low platelet count in the blood. Generic name of this drug is Eltrombopag Olamine. You can buy Promacta in form of oral tablets. It works by inducing proliferation and differentiation of megakaryocytes in progenitor cells in the bone marrow. This, in turn, increases the production of platelets in the patient’s body. You must know that Promacta does not cure thrombocytopenia; it is used only to treat the symptoms of this disease.

Side Effects for Promacta

Some common side effects for Promacta include mild nausea, upset stomach, vomiting, muscle pain, tingly feeling or numbness, heavy vaginal bleeding, and redness in the eyes. Most of these symptoms are manageable and get better on their own within a few days. In case any of these symptoms worsen or persist, you should immediately contact your doctor.

You should consult your doctor if you experience any of the following serious side effects during the therapy – severe and persistent nausea, dark urine, pain in upper stomach, clay-colored stools, jaundice, sudden weakness or numbness on single side of the body, sudden headache, problems with speech, vision, or balance, chest pain, coughing up blood, rapid breathing, wheezing, sudden cough, warmth, redness, swelling or pain in the legs, unusual bleeding from the vagina, rectum, nose, or mouth, red or purple pinpoints under the skin, and halos around lights.
