General Information on Suprefact Injection
Suprefact Injection is used for treating and managing hormone responsive cancers, including prostate cancer and breast cancer. Its generic name is Buserelin and it is one of the agonists of GnRH. Suprefact Injection is administered subcutaneously. The drug works by constantly stimulating the pituitary gland, thus curbing the secretion of FSH and LH of gonadotropin. Other than cancers, Suprefact Injection can also be used for treating estrogen dependent medical conditions including endometriosis and uterine fibroids, and for suppressing testosterone production.
Side Effects for Suprefact Injection
A patient’s serum testosterone levels may initially shoot up after the use of Suprefact Injection, which may lead to impaired micturition, bone pain, muscle weakness in the legs, thrombosis, lumphostasis, or hydronephrosis. In order to avoid these side effects, your doctor may decide to give you anti-androgens along with Suprefact Injection. Sometimes, this drug can also lead to malignant and benign neoplasms, blood disorders, nutrition and metabolism disorders, psychiatric disorders, nervous system disorders, eye disorders, labyrinth and ear disorders, cardiac disorders, vascular disorders, hepato-biliary disorders, gastro-intestinal disorders, skin and tissue disorders, bone disorders, and reproductive system disorders. You should immediately inform your doctor if you experience symptoms like emotional instability, dizziness, insomnia, impaired vision, pressure behind the eyes, frequent palpitations, hot flashes, pain in the lower abdomen, acne, dry skin, splitting nails, or a decrease in libido.
Precautions
Before you buy Suprefact Injection, you should inform your doctor if you are suffering from depression, hypertension, or diabetes. As the drug can decrease your bone density, it can lead to increased risks of bone fractures or osteoporosis, especially if you smoke, drink alcohol, or are on a long-term therapeutic procedure involving corticosteroids or anticonvulsants. Your doctor will also need to monitor your testosterone levels, which are supposed to increase initially and decrease after around 2 weeks. As the drug may cause dizziness, you should not drive a vehicle, operate a machine, or do any such activity that needs you to be completely alert. Pregnant women and lactating mothers should not use Suprefact Injection as it may harm the fetus or nursing baby.
Suprefact Injection Dosage
Adult males with prostate cancer are given Suprefact Injection 500mcg or 0.5mg every 8 hours. After a few days of starting the treatment, your doctor may decide to reduce the dose to Suprefact Injection 200mcg or 0.2mg, to be given once daily. Dosage adjustments can be made depending on a patient’s tolerability and response to treatment.
Interactions
You should inform your doctor if you are using a hormonal form of contraception. Suprefact Injection may affect the efficiency of contraceptive pills, patches, and rings, and therefore, your doctor may advise you to use a barrier form of contraception such as condoms, diaphragms, or a IUD. You should also tell your doctor if you are taking anti-diabetic medicines or medications that promote bone density loss such as Prednisone. Apart from these, inform him/her about all the medicinal products you are using at present, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, health supplements, and herbal products.
