General Information On Tykerb

Tykerb is an anti-cancer medication used for treating a certain type of breast cancer, which is HER2-Positive. Lapatinib belongs to the category of dual tyrosine kinase inhibitors that inhibit the domains of EGFR and HER2. Your doctor may recommend you to buy Tykerb along with capecitabine or letrozole, as the combination of these drugs will reduce the number of cancer cells in your body. This is an oral medicine recommended only if other cancer medications have been unsuccessful in treating your condition.

Side Effects for Tykerb

Nausea, upset stomach, vomiting, mild rash, mouth sores, dry skin, and insomnia are some of the common side effects associated with Tykerb. You are also likely to experience diarrhea, but you need to contact your doctor if the condition worsens and you become severely dehydrated. In that case, your doctor will prescribe other medicines in order to control your symptoms. As treatment with Tykerb may sometimes cause a skin reaction on your hands or feet known as hand-foot syndrome, you should keep an eye on your hands or feet for peeling, blisters, a tingling or burning sensation, swelling, pain, or redness. Some serious but rare side effects of the drug may include swelling on the ankles or feet, shortness of breath, unusual tiredness, fainting, dizziness, and fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat.

Precautions

In order to avoid hand-foot syndrome, you should keep yourself protected from direct sunlight, sunlamps, and tanning booths. If you need to go out in the sun, you should wear protective clothes and apply sunscreen (at least SPF 15). Avoid applying pressure on the soles of your feet, knees, and elbows, and wear comfortable shoes and loose clothes. Before taking Tykerb, you should inform your doctor if you are suffering from liver or heart disease or low levels of magnesium or potassium in the blood. You should also not take Tykerb if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as doing so may cause harm to your child.

Tykerb Dosage

You may be given Tykerb 1250mg once a day, to be continued for 21 days. For this, you will need to take five Tykerb 250mg tablets at a time; the dosage cannot be divided and needs to be taken as a single dose only. You need to take the pills at least 1 hour before or 1 hour after your meals. If your LVEF or left-ventricular ejection fraction comes back to normal, then your dosage can be decreased to Tykerb 1000mg/day after 2 weeks.

Interactions

Your doctor will not recommend you to buy Tykerb if you are already taking drugs that affect liver enzymes to remove lapatinib from body, like dexamethoasone, St. John’s Wort, and cimetidine, azole antifungals like itraconazole or ketoconazole, HIV protease inhibitors like ritonavir or saquinavir, macrolide antibiotics like erythromycin or clarithromycin, rifamycins like rifabutin, and anti-seizure medicines like phenytoin or carbamazepine. You should also not take other medicines with Tykerb that affect your heart rhythm, including pimozide, dofetilide, amiodarone, procainamide, quinidine, and sotalol. Always make it a point to share your complete medical information with your doctor to ensure that probability of drug interaction is minimized.
