General Information On Diovan
Diovan (generic name: Valsartan) is an oral medication prescribed to patients with high blood pressure. Valsartan belongs to the group of angiotensin II receptor antagonists that work by improving blood flow through a patient’s body. The drug stops the narrowing of blood vessels so that blood can flow through them easily and blood pressure is decreased as a result. Your doctor may also ask you to buy Diovan in order to treat certain heart conditions like heart failure and to prevent any fatality after a heart attack. The drug is available in the form of oral tablets with 40mg, 80mg, 160mg and 320mg strengths.
Side Effects for Diovan
Some common side effects of Diovan include a stuffy or runny nose, cough, sore throat, back pain, constipation, diarrhea, dry mouth, loss of appetite, stomach pain, skin rash or mild itching, insomnia, tiredness, dizziness, anxiety, headache, weakness, loss of libido, and impotence. Most of these symptoms subside over time, but you need to worry if you feel faint, have a pounding heartbeat, experience a tingly feeling or numbness, weight gain, or swelling in the body. Sometimes, Diovan can also lead to the breakdown of your skeletal muscle tissues, thus resulting in kidney failure. For that, you should contact your doctor immediately if you have vomiting or severe nausea, dark colored urine, or fever.
Precautions
Before taking Diovan, you should inform your doctor if you have an allergy to Valsartan or are suffering from a kidney or liver disease, congestive heart failure, or if you are already dehydrated. As the drug makes you dizzy, you should not drive a vehicle, operate a machine, or do any such activity that requires complete alertness. Consuming alcohol under these conditions can further worsen your condition, so try to avoid liquor while on Diovan treatment. If you are to undergo a surgery or a dental procedure, you should inform your surgeon or dentist that you have been using Valsartan. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you should take this medicine only if extremely necessary, because the safety of the medicine during these conditions has not yet been established.
Diovan Dosage
You will initially be asked to take Diovan 80mg to 160mg once a day with or without food. After that, the dosage can be increased depending on your age, medical condition, and response to treatment. For children aged between 6 to 16 years, the recommended dose is Diovan 1.3mg/kg not exceeding Diovan 40mg per day.
Interactions
Your doctor will not advise you to buy Diovan with any water pill or diuretic like warfarin, as these may react adversely with each other and hamper each other’s effects. Lithium products, pills, and supplements are also not to be taken with Valsartan, as they may interfere with each other’s functions and produce unwanted results. Other than these, you should inform your doctor about all the medicinal products you are using at present, including prescription and non-prescription drugs, herbal products, health supplements, oral solutions, and topical applications.
