General Information On Imitrex Nasal Spray

Imitrex Nasal Spray or Sumatriptan Nasal Spray is a medicinal spray used for treating acute migraine attacks in adults, with or without aura. It narrows blood vessels around the patient’s brain and reduces the substances that trigger headache, nausea, sound and light sensitivity and other symptoms of migraine. You need to note that you can buy Imitrex Nasal Spray only to treat a migraine attack that is already triggered. This medicine will not prevent any headache in the future or reduce the number of migraine attacks.

Side Effects for Imitrex Nasal Spray

Some of the common side effects of Imitrex Nasal Spray include muscle pain, nausea, diarrhea, runny nose, sneezing, burning or pain in the nose, unusual taste in the mouth, sleepiness, sweating, and drooling. Apart from that, you may need to obtain immediate medical help if you face allergic reactions such as hives, breathing difficulty or swelling in the tongue, throat, lips or face. Stop using the spray immediately and inform your doctor if you are experiencing any of these serious but rare side effects of the spray, including chest pain, sudden weakness or numbness, especially on one side of your body, vision problems, fast heart rate, muscle stiffness, bloody diarrhea, stomach pain, seizure, or a bluish tinge in your toes or fingers.

Precautions

You should tell your doctor if you have an allergy to Sumatriptan or you are suffering from liver disease, high blood pressure, heart disease, circulation problem, heart attack, stroke or ischemic bowel disease. Imitrex Nasal Spray is not recommended for children and adults and can be administered only if you are 18 to 65 years of age. As Sumatriptan may pass into your breast milk and harm your baby, you should not use it if you are breastfeeding. You should also inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. As the spray can impair your reacting and thinking ability, you should not drive or do any activity that needs you to be extremely alert.

Imitrex Nasal Spray Dosage

Imitrex Nasal Spray is available in 5mg and 20mg strengths. A single dose of Imitrex Nasal Spray 5mg is administered into one nostril for a 5mg dose. To achieve a 10mg dose a single spray of the Imitrex Nasal Spray 5mg is administered into each nostril. Some adults to obtain relief of their migraine attack with a 5mg or 10mg dose, but if needed, the dosage can be increased to Imitrex Nasal Spray 20mg if your headache does not get relieved. Response to the medicine may vary from person to person, but you need to remember that the higher the strength of the spray, the greater the risks of adverse effects. If you get another migraine or the headache does not resolve with the first dose, do not use the spray within 2 hours of the last administration, and you should not take more than 40mg of Imitrex nasal spray a day.

Interactions

Before you buy Imitrex Nasal Spray, you should inform your doctor if you are already taking anti-depressant medicines like Celexa, Cymbalta, Lexapro, Prozac, Luvox, Sarafem, Effexor, Zoloft or Paxil. You should also not take the medicine in combination with an ergot medicine or a monoamine oxidase inhibitor.
