General Information On Zetia
Zetia is a unique type of medication for the treatment of high cholesterol. Unlike other cholesterol lowering medicines, known as statins, Zetia works in the digestive tract by blocking the absorption of cholesterol that you derive from food. It can be taken as a complement to other methods of lowering the cholesterol, like dieting or exercising and along with a statin. It can be taken with or without food any time if the day. It can also be taken both with and without a statin. You may require taking a blood test to check your liver before the start of treatment. It has been reported that people who added Zetia to their statin intake, reduced their bad cholesterol by an additional 25%.
Side Effects/Precautions For Zetia
There are a few side effects that have been noted while taking Zetia or Ezetimibe. Some of them are feeling of tiredness, joint pains, muscle aches, stomach pain, rash, nausea, diarrhea and dizziness. In some cases a tingling sensation, headache and gall stones have also been reported. If brand or generic Zetia is given along with a statin, it may cause muscle pain or weakness. In case of any of these side effects, inform your doctor immediately. The Zetia drug has not been known to prevent a heart attack or heart disease.

Zetia Dosage
Zetia is available as a 10 mg tablet. The normal recommended dosage of this drug is 10 mg once every day. In a Concomitant Lipid Lowering Therapy, the dosage is administered with a statin or a fenofibrate in patients with primary or mixed hyperlipidemia. When co administered with Bile Acid Sequestrants, the dosage of this drug should be either 2 to 4 hours before or 2 to 4 hours after the administration of a bile acid sequestrant. In patients with Hepatic Impairment, Renal Impairment and Geriatric patients, there is no need for change in Zetia dosage.
